How to Look Up a Specific Text

There are three ways to open a specific text in the Sefaria library:

  • By typing a citation into the search bar
  • By using the search bar as a starting point
  • By using the homepage

To open a text by typing a specific citation into the search bar:

  1. Type the specific citation of your desired text into the search bar (e.g. Jonah 1:10)
  2. On your keyboard, press return (on a Mac) or press enter (on a PC).

To open a specific text by using the search bar as a starting point:

  1. Type the title of your desired text into the search bar (e.g. Yoma)
  2. Click on the option with a book symbol preceding it.

To open a specific text by using the homepage:

  1. Browse the categories on the homepage.
  2. Click on the relevant name to open the desired book.
  3. Scroll to find your desired chapter and verse.

Please note: 

  • The search bar works both in Hebrew and English. If you don’t have a Hebrew-language keyboard enabled on your computer, click on the right side of the search bar to open the virtual Hebrew-language keyboard. 
  • The search bar recognizes variant spellings to accommodate many possible transliterations
