Quick Guide: Meet the Sefaria Library Homepage

The Sefaria Library homepage is your initial entry point into our digital stacks.

In the center of the homepage you’ll find the following categories of text, along with a brief description of each category. Click on any category to see the various texts within. 

Tanakh

Talmud

Halakhah

Liturgy

Tosefta

Musar

Second Temple

Mishnah

Midrash

Kabbalah

Jewish Thought

Chasidut

Responsa

Reference

Note: Commentaries are found within the category of text on which they are commenting. For example, commentaries on Tanakh are found within the Tanakh category.

 

At the top of the Sefaria Library homepage you’ll see the header. On the left side of the header, there are three links: 

  • Texts: Click to return to the Library homepage at any time. 
  • Topics: Click to access the Topics homepage, a collection of 5,000+ pages of thematically organized sources from Jewish texts. 
  • Donate: Click to access a donation hub, through which you can support Sefaria’s work.

On the right side of the header, you’ll also see:

  • A search bar
  • A Sign Up button*
  • A question mark symbol (click to access the Help Center
  • A bookmark symbol** (click to see your saved texts)
  • A globe symbol* (click to choose your preferred interface language)
  • A product switcher (click to navigate to another Sefaria product)
  • A profile button which, when logged in, will display your picture or initials (click to open a dropdown menu) 

* If you are logged out of your Sefaria account or have not created one.

** If you are logged into your Sefaria account.

You can find the following additional resources in the right-hand side of the homepage (or by scrolling down when using a mobile browser): 

  • Basic information about Sefaria
  • A video guide for new users
  • Your three most recently viewed texts
  • Translation options
  • Learning schedules (such as the weekly Torah portion)
  • A link for downloading the Sefaria app
  • Learning tools, such as visualizations and educator resources
  • A link to download Sefaria’s Torah Tab browser extension
  • An additional link to the Sefaria Help Center

Please note: 

  • When viewing the Sefaria Library homepage in an internet browser on a mobile device, you’ll find these options by scrolling to the bottom of the homepage. 
  • Not all of these options are available when using Sefaria’s mobile apps. Available resources are located at the bottom of your mobile device’s screen. 

When you’re logged into your Sefaria Account, you will see a blue-and-white Sefaria icon on the bottom right side of the Sefaria Library homepage. Click this to access the Sefaria Library Assistant, an experimental AI-powered chat interface, designed to help learners discover and explore Jewish texts. 

Please note: 

  • The Library Assistant is only available on the website and is located in the Sefaria Library.
  • To use the Library Assistant, you must be logged into your Sefaria Account.
  • We will be gradually rolling out the Assistant so it might not be available to you yet.
