You can find options for customizing the visual presentation of the text in this menu, found at the top right corner of your screen.

When you click on the A symbol (or א, when using the Hebrew version of the interface), you’ll see the following options for customization:

  • Source: View the text in its original language
  • Translation: View the text in translation only.
  • Source with Translation: View the text in both its original language and a translation.
  • Monolingual Layout: When viewing the text in a single language, choose whether to view the text as a continuous paragraph or broken up into verses.
  • Bilingual Layout: When viewing in two languages, choose how you view the two languages:
      • Stacked
      • With the original language on the left side
      • With the original language on the right side
  • Font Size: Click on either the plus or minus icons to increase or decrease font size until you arrive at your preferred size.

  • Aliyot [Torah only]: Turning on the Aliyot option will show you how the text is traditionally partitioned into Torah readings.
  • Vowels [Hebrew only]: Choose whether to view with or without vowels.
  • Punctuation [Talmud only]: Choose to view the text with or without punctuation marks.
  • Cantillation [Tanakh only]: Choose whether to view a Hebrew-language text with or without cantillation markings.

Please note:

  • You will only see a translation is an option exists in the library. If the language is set to bilingual but only Hebrew appears, this means Sefaria does not have a translation for the text.
  • Adding vowels to talmudic texts is an ongoing process that we have not yet completed. Vowels are added in accordance with the Daf Yomi schedule, which you can view by exploring our learning schedules.
