How to Download a Text

Most of the resources in Sefaria’s library are free to download. 

When downloading a text, you’ll be asked to specify the version and format you’d like to download. 

  • The version refers to a specific edition of the text (e.g. The Koren Jerusalem Bible).
  • The format refers to the file type and can be determined by your intended use of the downloaded text. For example, a CSV file can be viewed in a text editor or a spreadsheet program (such as Microsoft Excel). A JSON file can be used in code-editing programs, such as Visual Studio Code. 

To download a text:

  1. Click on any passage of text to open the Resource Panel. 
  2. Click on About this Text, found at the top of the Resource Panel.
  3. Scroll down to locate the subheading Download Text.
  4. Select your preferred version and format using the provided dropdown menus.
  5. Click the Download button.
