On Sefaria, many texts are available in multiple translations and editions and can be viewed in two versions simultaneously (e.g. Hebrew and French). You can designate a preferred translation language in your profile settings, thereby ensuring that any text you choose to view in translation will automatically appear in your preferred language. In order to designate a default language, you need to have a Sefaria account.

To choose a default translation language:

  1. Click on your profile button, found in the top right corner of your screen.
  2. Click on the word Profile.
  3. Click on the Settings button, found under your name.
  4. Under the Preferred Translation Language subheading, click on the language you wish to designate as your default translation language.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  6. Click Save.

Please note:

  • The default translation language on Sefaria is English. Therefore, if your preferred language is English, you don’t need to designate that in your profile settings.
  • If your default translation language is not English, and the text you're viewing is unavailable in the language of your choice, it will automatically appear in English.
  • Choosing a default language on Sefaria’s mobile apps requires a separate process.
