The Sefaria Library Search Bar: How to Search for Sources

Sefaria’s search bar allows users to search by keyword. When searching, use Sefaria’s icons to differentiate between types of search results (books, authors, topics, and more). The below key clarifies the various icons and their meanings.

To find a complete list of sources that contain your keyword:

  1. Type the keyword into the search bar at the top right of your screen.
  2. Click on the first result to see all the books, Topic pages, and author names that contain your keyword. 

 

To use Sefaria’s icon system to find a book, topic page, or author page:

  1. Type the keyword into the search bar at the top right of your screen.
  2. Using the icon system (above), select the result that best matches your desired result. 

 

To find a specific citation by using the search bar:

  1. Type the specific citation of your desired text into the search bar (e.g. Exodus 3:12)
  2. On your keyboard, press return (on a Mac) or press enter (on a PC).
